Chino Latino’s Healthy Asian Dining:

Having moved fairly recently to this part of London, I’m always thrilled when I am invited to a local restaurant for the first time.  Albert Embankment in Lambeth is a 20-minute walk from home for me, home to MI6 and, as its name suggests, directly overlooking The Thames.  I was invited along to Chino Latino Pan Asian restaurant and latin bar, a couple of weeks ago to try a few gin cocktails and their new Asian Pickle set menu.

I’m sure that by now everyone is aware of the well-being and nutritional benefits of fermented dishes.  Drinks like Kombucha and Kefir, dishes like Saukraut and Kimchi are believed to improve the digestive system by introducing probiotic into your diet.  But, what we are perhaps less aware of is exactly how to make best use of these healthy pickled and fermented products in a way that is appetising.  Gin cocktails on the other hand, always go down a treat;)

But, the ethos behind Group Executive Chef, Werner Seebach’s Asian Pickle set menu is to create an appetising and delicious meal using pickles.  Priced at £37 per person, it is a five-course menu featuring a pickle at every stage.

Chino Latino Albert Embankment - edemame

To start,  we nibbled on delicious Edamame with fermented black bean sauce.

Chino Latino Albert Embankment maki rolls

This was followed by starters of miso-marinated pork belly and kimchi maki rolls.

Chino Latino Albert Embankment - Salmon and Green Mango

A sharing salad of cured seared salmon with green mango, quails eggs and crispy skin was delicious, piquant and bursting with flavour – probably my favourite dish of the evening

Chino Latino Albert Embankment - bulgogi beef with pickled mushroom

The main course of rib eye bulgogi beef with pickled eryngi mushrooms was a warming, comforting winter dish that I’d happily order from the menu again.

Chino Latino Albert Embankment - apple with pickled carrot

And, the pretty apple mouse with dates and pickled carrot rounded things off nicely.

The restaurant itself is on the first floor of The Park Plaza Hotel, London Riverbank and is a restaurant with stunning views of the Thames and Houses of Parliament.  So, why not pop along yourself and get properly pickled with Chino Latino!  The healthy pickle menu is available for the next three months, priced at £37pp
